You can call it a Canadian tuxedo, but I prefer to call denim on denim a trend. It doesn't have to look like you are heading to a ranch, this outfit is a favorite of mine all year long. For fall, I switch my denim cut offs to jeans and pair it with knee high boots for a look that is really versatile.

If you want to get the denim look like mine,  you can shop the post by clicking the links above or stay on top of all my latest outfit posts with a new fashion app WEAR. Once you sign up for the site and use the desktop version or the app, you can see how other people style the same items to get some outfit inspiration from your own wardrobe. For me, it's cool to search by height so I can see how other petite girls style their looks and to find some new international trendsetters to follow. And as if looking fabulous isn't enough, by posting your looks on WEAR you will get a chance to be featured on NYLON Magazine's page on their site too. Check out my page and follow me on WEAR

Temperatures are finally cooling down and as I pack for another trip, I am excited to embrace the Fall weather. This time of year is my favorite, because we've gotten over the hot summer months and it is just before the snow hits and we stay in doors.

Fall fashion is another reason I love this time of year because I can pile on the layers. A go to look of mine is denim on denim with a statement jacket like the Paula Coat from aB. Although this look is casual, it is still fashionable for every occasion you can think of from a pumpkin patch to a football game all while being effortlessly cool. There are also a ton of pockets so I can stuff my phone and gloves and anything else I need into my jacket without having to deal with carrying a purse.

Miso Black Cod

MARIANNA HEWITT MISO BLACK CODE RECIPE EASY NOBU

Who doesn't love the Miso Black Cod from Nobu? It is one of my favorite dishes there and ever since I had it the first time, I have tried to perfect this recipe at home. It is so easy to make and so delicious. I made it for lunch today with some blanched asparagus that I learned how to perfect at a cooking class in Paris and with brown rice. Pretty simple, but pretty darn yummy.

ASPARAGUS

  • Line up all the asparagus so the heads are lined up. Cut the ends so that all the stalks are even.
  • Boil water, add salt.
  • When the asparagus turns bright green and you can easily stick a fork in the end, they are done.
  • Put in a bowl of ice water to cool.
  • Drizzle with olive oil, lemon juice and a dash of salt

MISO BLACK COD

  • 6 (6-ounce) black cod fillets, or regular cod fillets
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium blond or white miso
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

Rinse fish fillets and pat dry with paper towels. Combine miso, brown sugar, sesame oil and mirin and stir well until brown sugar is fully dissolved.
Brush about 2 tablespoons miso glaze on each fish fillet. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour. Preheat oven to 400, cook for 9-12 minutes.

Tips For Dressing Like a French Girl

how to dress more french

I am semi over seeing Fashion Week photos on my instagram feed. #sorrynotsorry but I am excited to see all the photos from Paris. Of all of the fashion weeks, it is my most favorite. I am really bummed I'm not there, I had to stay in Los Angeles for work but my Mom is there (how unfair is that!?) Paris is and always has been one of my favorite cities in the world. So whether you are traveling there for fashion week, a quick trip or you want to add a little je ne sais quoi to your everyday wardrobe, I wanted to share some tips for dressing more like a French girl.

I love their style so much, it is NOTHING like Los Angeles. It reminds me of New York in a way but even more effortless. I became obsessed with Ines de la Fressange and bought so many items from the collaboration with Uniqlo and my transition into a more French friendly wardrobe grew from there. Other French style icons I love are Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot. And you obviously can't forget the OG, Coco Chanel. There are some modern day style icons too, but no matter who they are, their style remains timeless.

There are some key items to add to your wardrobe like a Chanel bag and a smoking jacket made famous by Yves Saint Laurent but here are some things to remember.

  • Keep your outfits simple, less is more especially in a classic palette of black and white. Navy is also popular, especially in stripes. Oh and grey too.
  • Flats are friendly, especially if they are Chanel ballet slippers.
  • Own an incredible blazer that can be paired with denim for an all around outfit.
  • Mix new and vintage pieces
  • Mix casual clothes with dressy designer items
  • No Prints (except stripes!)
  • Keep it minimal, this goes for jewelry, hair and makeup.
  • Be classic, not trendy.
  • You can look chic in denim.
  • Try to be: Simple, Chic and Natural

Remember these tips to channel your inner Parisian. And head over to the Travel section of my blog for past visits to France.
